“La Festa dell’Architetto” and school architecture as a project for the future

The 2020 edition of the "Festa dell’Architetto", postponed due to the pandemic, takes place with live streaming January 27 through 29, 2021. Organised by Italy’s National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservationists (Consiglio Nazionale degli Architetti, Pianificatori, Paesaggisti e Conservatori or CNAPPC) and the country’s network of provincial orders of architects, the event promotes the culture of design and underlines architecture’s social function. The CNAPPC’s virtual museum will be inaugurated during the event, and the awards for “Architetto italiano” (Italian Architect), “ Giovane Talento dell'Architettura Italiana” (Young Talent in Italian Architecture) and a Special Prize entitled “(Ri)progettare la scuola con le nuove generazioni post Covid-19 ” ((Re)designing the school with the new post Covid-19 generations) will be awarded.

Brick architecture: the winners of Brick Award 20

The University of Silesia, Faculty of Radio and Television designed by BAAS Arquitectura, Grupa 5 architekci and Maleccy biuro projektowe has won the Grand Prize in the Brick Award 20 competition. The prize for innovative brick architecture was awarded for the 9th time this year, in the first online awards ceremony in the history of the competition.

Singapore Institute of Architects announces winners of the Architectural Design Awards 2020

The Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA) recently published the list of winners of the 19th edition of the Architectural Design Awards 2020. The prizes are awarded to projects designed by SIA members divided into 6 categories and evaluated by a jury that selects the 20 Design Awards and the 11 Merit Awards, plus two special Buildings of the Year prizes which, for this 2020 edition went to the Jewel Changi Airport designed by Safdie Architects and the Sky Green tower designed by WOHA Architects.

Edward Mazria is the recipient of the 2021 AIA Gold Medal

Architect Edward Mazria, founder of Architecture 2030, will be presented with the top award assigned annually by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) to a professional whose work has had a lasting influence on the theory and practice of architecture. Edward Mazria is one of the world’s greatest experts in sustainable architecture and the role of architecture as both a cause and a remedy of climate change.

BCKJ Architects wins the 2020 Royal Academy Dorfman Award

The Chinese BCKJ Architects studio, founded by architects Dong Mei and Liu Xiaochuan, is the winner of the 2020 Royal Academy Dorfman Award promoted by Britain's Royal Academy of Arts. The award jury, chaired by architect Norman Foster, selected the BCKJ Architects studio from a shortlist of four finalists which, in addition to the winner, included the AAU Anastas, AOR Architects and WHBC Architects studios. This year, the Royal Academy of Arts also recognised architect Cristina Iglesias, who was selected as the winner of the 2020 RA Architecture Prize.

Registration for the 14th edition of the Fassa Bortolo International Prize for Sustainable Architecture

Registration is open for the 14th edition of the Fassa Bortolo International Prize for Sustainable Architecture for works completed, promoted by the Department of Architecture of the University of Ferrara and by the Fassa Bortolo company. The prize, awarded every two years, promotes works of architecture that are in harmony with the environment and that enable a stronger balance between man and nature. The deadline for online registration is January 11, 2021 and February 8, 2021 for submitting the necessary documentation.

David Adjaye wins the 2021 RIBA Royal Gold Medal

Architect David Adjaye was awarded the 2021 Royal Gold Medal, the highest British award given to a person or group of people who have had a significant influence “either directly or indirectly on the advancement of architecture”. The commission for the 2021 Royal Gold Medal included, among others, architects Dorte Mandrup and Shelley McNamara, winner of the 2020 Royal Gold Medal together with Yvonne Farrell.

The winners of the 2020 Italian Architecture Award

On June 30 MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Art hosted the awards ceremony in the first edition of the Italian Architecture Award, promoted by MAXXI and Triennale Milano with the support of the Italian Culture and Tourism Ministry. On the podium, two women architects: Francesca Torzo with "Z33 House for Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture" and Lucy Styles with "Home Sweet Home". Architect Cino Zucchi was awarded an honourable mention for the Lavazza Headquarters, while the Award for Lifetime Achievement went to architect Renzo Piano.
