The winners of the 2020 Italian Architecture Award
On June 30 MAXXI National Museum of 21st Century Art hosted the awards ceremony in the first edition of the Italian Architecture Award, promoted by MAXXI and Triennale Milano with the support of the Italian Culture and Tourism Ministry. On the podium, two women architects: Francesca Torzo with "Z33 House for Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture" and Lucy Styles with "Home Sweet Home". Architect Cino Zucchi was awarded an honourable mention for the Lavazza Headquarters, while the Award for Lifetime Achievement went to architect Renzo Piano.

Premio Italiano di Architettura 2020 Award for Lifetime Achievement assigned to Renzo Piano
Triennale di Milano and Maxxi, the National Museum of 21st Century Arts in Rome, with the support of MiBACT, the Italian culture ministry, held the first edition of Premio Italiano di Architettura, the Italian Prize for Architecture, in 2020. The first prize to be presented is the Award for Lifetime Achievement, which goes to Renzo Piano, the 1998 Pritzker Prize winning architect with a life-long appointment to the Italian senate. The awards ceremony will be held at Maxxi in Rome on June 30, on the occasion of the opening of the YAP Rome at MAXXI 2020 project, when the winners in the categories for the best built projects will be announced.

Piuarch’s Human Technopole Campus research building on the former Expo site in Milan
Piuarch, the architectural practice founded by Francesco Fresa, Germán Fuenmayor, Gino Garbellini and Monica Tricario, won the international design contest held by Fondazione Human Technopole and Arexpo for the former Expo site in Milan, where the Human Technopole Campus will be built: a new research facility, ten floors high with 35,000 square metres of floor space where cutting-edge laboratories and technologies will be available to scientists about three years from now.

Winners of the ARCHMARATHON Awards 2020 Miami
The 2020 edition of the ARCHMARATHON Awards Miami was recently concluded. The final event was held on February 27 to 29 at the Moore Elastika Building in Miami, where the 48 architecture studios selected by an international jury chaired by architect Luca Molinari, were presented. The overall winner for the interior design section was the Valextra Bal Harbor Shops project by ArandaLasch studio, and for the architecture section the Hunter’s Point South Waterfront Park Phase II project designed by the SWA/Balsley and Weiss/Manfredi firms. A special prize for sustainability was awarded to the Mc Donald’s Chicago Flagship project designed by the Ross Barney Architects studio.

Benedetta Tagliabue’s studio EMBT wins the Piranesi Prix de Rome for lifelong achievement
Architect Benedetta Tagliabue will receive the Piranesi Prix de Rome for lifetime achievement, representing EMBT, the architectural studio she founded with Enric Miralles. The announcement was made on 18 February 2020 following the decision of the Piranesi Prix de Rome Scientific Committee in collaboration with the Order of Architects, Landscape Architects, Planners and Conservation Workers of Rome and the province of Rome.

Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara win the 2020 Pritzker Prize
Their integral approach, generosity toward their colleagues, commitment to excellence in architecture, responsible approach to the environment and faith in collaboration are all merits the Pritzker Prize jury listed in its motivation for awarding the prestigious Pritzker Prize, a sort of Nobel Prize for architecture, to Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara, founders of Grafton Architects in Dublin, Ireland.

Exhibition of projects submitted for the DAM Preis 2020 won by David Chipperfield Architects’ James Simon Galerie
Starting on 31 January 2020, Frankfurt’s DAM Deutsches Architekturmuseum hosts an exhibition about the projects entered for the DAM Preis 2020, a competition for the best architecture in Germany held since 2007. The winning project in 2020 is the James Simon Galerie in Berlin, designed by David Chipperfield Architects.
