Höweler + Yoon: Sky Court Exhibition Hall in Chengdu

Höweler + Yoon’s Boston studio applied the traditional model of the Chinese courtyard house to the plan for Sky Court Exhibition Hall in Chengdu. Using the shape of this type of building, compact on the outside with an open courtyard on the inside, the architects take advantage of its ability to control temperature to reduce energy consumption. The project falls into the current of contemporary Chinese architecture that draws inspiration from tradition and proposes a new, updated version of it.

Chang Architects: house surrounded by nature in Singapore

Chang Architects’ Framed House in Singapore represents a new evolution of residential architecture. The home is the project of the combination of intersecting frames with a vertical orientation with glass walls in between them. The geometric effect offers multiple points of view looking out from inside the home and vice versa, while the building’s composition offers the perfect balance of transparency and privacy.

Camps-Felip: Ferreries Cultural Centre in Tortosa

The projects discovered and acknowledged by Floornature’s international Next Landmark contest include redevelopment of the market in Ferreries, a neighbourhood in Tortosa, Catalonia, by architects Josep Camps Povill and Olga Felip Ordis, which earned an honourable mention for first project. The old building was restored and converted into a cultural centre, with the addition of a new volume linking it with the square outside.

C. F. Møller: Sølvgade School in Copenhagen

In this discrete project, C. F. Møller has renovated an old school in Copenhagen, restoring the original volume built in 1847 and constructing a new building on the corner of Kronprinsessegade and Klerkegade. The element allowing the new building to communicate with its surroundings is a façade concealing an energy conservation project.
