José Adrião has converted a Fado singer’s house in the Mouraria in Lisbon into a bar and restaurant where Fado is sung. Casa da Severa, an old apartment building on 4 floors, maintains the same outer volume, while the interiors have been demolished to form a single open space for the restaurant.

2016 was definitely a "golden year" for Brazilian architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The long list of awards presented to him over the course of his career, including the 2006 Pritzker Prize, grew longer with the addition of a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, the Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award and now, the RIBA Royal Gold Medal.

José Adrião Arquitetos: casa dos prazeres in Lisbon

José Adrião Arquitetos renovates a house in Lisbon’s Alcantara district for use as José Adrião’s own house. Squeezed between two buildings on Rua Gilberto Rola, the Casa dos Prazeres opens up towards the top and the rear patio. White walls, bare concrete and glimpses of different rooms and levels give the project its character.
