There is a neighbourhood in Dob??š, in the Czech Republic, where the houses reflect their owners' personality, forming an architectural puzzle which is as various as it is unusual. This is where Mimosa Architects built Family House.

A soft house: Mimosa Architects' Family House

The architects themselves admit that the house's shape is a bit bizarre, but it perfectly reflects the inhabitants' personality. Family House, designed by Mimosa Architects in Dob??š in the Czech Republic, is a soft house with no corners. The owners wanted an “unusual house, not just a box”, and so the Czezch studio put its creativity to work, creating a home with an outer perimeter entirely without straight lines or angles.

The clients' other request, less unusual, was to have the house built out of natural materials. This is why the whole house is covered on all sides (or on its only side, depending on how you look at it) with larch shingles, so that the building dialogues with the coniferous forest behind it. To complete this “soft” and ecological house, they installed a heat pump for water and air and a heat recovery system. Sometimes unusual requests from clients can be an important source of inspiration for producing particularly interesting architecture!
