Santiago Calatrava. The Quest for Movement
The first retrospective of the work of a contemporary architect to be held at the Hermitage in St. Petersburg features the work of Santiago Calatrava. Calatrava is not only a world-famous architect but a sculptor and painter as well, and the exhibition attempts to explore all of his creative production.

Alongside the models and drawings of his principal buildings, the exhibition includes large sculptures and paintings created specifically for the event. The projects on display will include the architect?s most recent work, the plan for a railway station in Mons, the Belgian town that will be European Cultural Capital in 2015.

The Hermitage has a vast collection of architectural drawings dating from the 17th to 19th centuries, and the exhibition on Santiago Calatrava?s work will be the first in a series of architectural events to be held in Nikolaevsky Hall, the heart of the Winter Palace which houses the Museum.
