The Vitra Design Museum holds its first major retrospective of the work of Rudolf Steiner to mark the 150th anniversary of his birth.

Rudolf Steiner - Alchemy of the everyday The founder of the Waldorf schools, Rudolf Steiner is also considered one of the fathers of organic architecture, and his work inspired artists such as Piet Mondrian, Wassily Kandinsky and Joseph Beuys. He is one of the most contested and influential reformers of the 20th century, and his thought has had repercussions in many different fields, anticipating a number of trends in contemporary design and architecture.

Rudolf Steiner?s influence is particularly strongly felt in Basel, where he lived for a number of years. His most important work of architecture is the Goetheanum built between 1924 and 1928 in Dornach, only 15 km from the Vitra Design Museum.

At the same time as the main exhibition, “Rudolf Steiner - Alchemy of the everyday”, a series of related initiatives will allow visitors to follow in Steiner?s footsteps in the area.
The events will involve designers, architects, actors, artists, scientists and businesspeople from a variety of fields, looking into Steiner?s ideas and establishing parallels with today?s trends towards organic architecture, sustainability and social aspects of design.
