Two awards for Olson Kundig Architects, the 2011 AIA Housing Award for the Art Stable housing complex and for 1111 E. Pike.
The awards, presented by the American Institute of Architects (AIA) with the aim of promoting quality architecture, are for all kinds of architectural projects, from residential to commercial.
According to architect Tom Kundig, co-founder of Olson Kundig Architects and director of both projects, priority was given to the study of context to guide the design solutions and construction of the buildings as an integral part of the communities in which they stand.
The Art Stable also received the "project of the year" award in the residential design category. The judges particularly appreciated its almost "handmade" look as an artists? home and workshop which is itself a work of art.
