Maarten Baas, exhibition in Paris

What designer Maarten Baas has set up for the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris is a divertissement: the designer/artist has created a theatrical space made up of a number of interiors in which anonymous pieces are exhibited alongside his own works to create surreal scenes and unusual combinations.

Much of Baas' work is experimental and controversial, going beyond preconceived ideas and overcoming the limits of design.

Baas proposes optical effects, illusions and games. His works may be ascribed to the experience of the Dutch group Droog Design, one of the first groups to propose subversive, iconoclastic design.
