FIFA Football World Museum opens in Zurich

The FIFA Football World Museum, a museum about the history of football designed by SAM Architekten und Partner AG in Zurich , opened on February 28 in the Haus zur Enge office building, designed between 1974 and 1978 by Swiss architect Werner Stücheli (1916-1983).
The architects of SAM Architekten und Partner AG preserved only the outer shell of the original building, expanding it upwards and reorganising the interiors and the distribution of functions in response to new needs. The building will host not only the museum but a number of common areas: a sports bar, a bistro, a coffee shop and store, event and seminar rooms, five floors of offices and 34 apartments varying in size from 64 to 125 sqm.
The museum of the history of football is installed on 3 levels from the basement to the first floor, totalling 3000 sqm, featuring a collection of more than 1000 artefacts : historical documents, books, videos and photos celebrating the 209 athletic associations that are FIFA members and tracing the history of football, demonstrating how it became one of the planet’s most important and most popular sports.
The architects also adapted the building’s energy performance, using water from Lake Zurich as a renewable source of heating in winter and cooling in summer.
