Enviu and the Sustainable Dance Club: guaranteed ecological fun for the young.
Enviu – Innovators in Sustainability was founded in the Netherlands in 2004 with the goal of developing more and more innovative solutions with a special focus on the environment and society.
One of their highest-impact projects, implemented with Döll Architects – the Sustainable Dance Club (SDC) – is based on the assumption that sustainability need not mean boredom or giving things up, especially for the young: far from it Dancing can be a way of having fun e while doing something for the environment, if the movement of the feet on the dance floor is transformed into usable electricity! Since 2008 Rotterdam’s WATT Club has had a “sustainable dance floor” of the type that has also been seen in museum installations and at major events such as Rock in Rio.
SDC’s motto explains exactly what this project combining fun with sustainability is all about: People, Planet, Party!
