Steve McCurry India at The Rubin Museum of Art On our trip to New York we were lucky enough to see “India”, the exhibition by renowned photographer Steve McCurry at the Rubin Museum. Images with a primordial power, whose perfect construction generates deep emotions.

Steve McCurry: India is the title of exhibition co-organised by the Rubin Museum and the International Center of Photography. A look across three decades of photos by the famous US photographer and the first show to focus on his India photos. A project in line with the fields of interest and cross-cultural approach of the Rubin Museum.

Don't miss this opportunity to let yourself be sucked into the creative vortex of the images exhibited, which come from the “India by Rail” and “Monsoon” series, some of which are on display to the general public for the very first time. Because here Steve McCurry's photos go way beyond the undisputed charm of India and its populations.

As Paolo Schianchi - editor-in-chief of Floornature and author of a range of publications on visual arts and creativity (link book article) - pointed out during our visit, a thorough knowledge of the history of art and of visual composition lies behind Steve McCurry's images. This has made it possible for the photographer to set up a perfect balance between the history of the image and his own visual culture of photography.

Each photograph becomes a picture of intense narration; suffice it to look closely into the eyes of the mother with her son on the train to feel the movement, or the coloured embrace of the labourers in the fields before the arrival of the monsoon to capture the intrinsic tension of the situations portrayed by Steve McCurry. The exhibition is completed by some Himalayan artworks selected from the Rubin Museum collection, and some video interviews with the photographer.
Thanks to the warm, welcoming atmosphere of the museum and the curatorship of Lia Zaaloff and Christopher Phillips, “Steve McCurry: India” is a real must for every fine photography buff.
