Rethinking How People Move in Cities. One of the major issues of today’s cities is mobility and, with that, sustainability. The “Rethinking How People Move in Cities” conference being held in London on 14 November is the first in a series of conferences and talks organised by “Architecture IO”.

On 14 November, the Museum of London will be hosting urban planners, architects and researchers as they examine the issue of mobility, which has such a huge impact on the quality of life in cities. Right now half of the world’s population lives in cities and this is estimated to rise to 70% by 2050. This raises the key question of providing the right urban mobility infrastructure and intelligent design so people can move around freely.

“Rethinking How People Move in Cities” is the first in a series of conferences and talks organised by Architecture IO. Through these high impact talks, the idea is to humanise architecture, promote interdisciplinary discussions and share knowledge.

The conference host will be Angela Brady, former President of the RIBA, and passionate about contributing to a better understanding of architecture and to public engagement with architectural projects. Speakers include Susan Claris (Arup), Max Schwitalla (Studio Schwitalla), Sam Martin (SkyCycle project), Bruno Moser (Foster and Partners), Till Nagel (University Potsdam and MIT) and Mikael Colville-Andersen, urban design expert focused on re-establishing the bicycle in the urban landscape, also known as the Danish ambassador for this green form of transport.

“Rethinking How People Move in Cities” examines the trends, initiatives and challenges driving the development of transport systems in modern cities, now and for the future.
