LMN Architects wins the 2017 National AIA Honor Award for Regional & Urban Design The Cleveland Civic Core and Convention Center Complex, the renovation and expansion project designed by LMN Architects in partnership with landscape architects GGN and the design-build team of URS, Robert P. Madison, and Turner Construction has won the 2017 National AIA Honor Award for Regional & Urban Design.

We continue our presentation of the winners of the 2017 National AIA Honor Awards, and the Cleveland Civic Core and Convention Center Complex is one of five urban design and planning projects from around the globe to be recognized with a 2017 National AIA Honor Award for Regional & Urban Design from the American Institute of Architects (AIA)..
As LMN partner, Rafael Vinoly-Menendez says, this is a major redevelopment project where the goal is to positively shape urban landscapes and foster civic vitality. It all starts from the city's historical Burnham Mall, the celebrated 1903 civic plaza designed by Daniel Burnham.
In addition to the 55,000+ square metres of the Burnham Mall, the project also includes the 71,000 square metre renovation and expansion of the Cleveland Convention Center the approximately 22,000 square-metre Global Center for Health Innovation to create a new hub and revitalize Downtown Cleveland.
So LMN architects with landscape architects GGN and the design-build team of URS, Robert P. Madison, and Turner Construction came up with solutions aimed at weaving together the buildings and featuring dialogue with the exterior, by creating new, large entry points on the plaza and crafting a 36,000 square metre park on the roof of the Cleveland Convention Center, establishing its value as a green lung in the city.
The Global Center for Health Innovation and its architectural skin is a reflection of contemporary work, reinterpreted specifically because of the possibilities offered by digital technology for the precast concrete fabrication.
Seattle-based LMN Architects specializes in the planning and design of significant public and private projects that celebrate and enrich communities. The firm is the recipient of the 2016 American Institute of Architects Architecture Firm Award and now add the 2017 National AIA Honor Award for Regional & Urban Design.
