- Family holidays on Lake Chelan
The architects and designers from Seattle-based firm Hoedermarker Pfeiffer take the fleeting moment so seriously that according to them, “small moments, family, and shared memories ... make life’s journey meaningful”.
This explains the skill of Hoedermarker Pfeiffer in designing homes for downtime, including the family holiday retreat on Lake Chelan, the largest natural lake in Washington State, a favourite getaway for Seattle residents because it is only about three house away.
Here, Hoedermarker Pfeiffer crafted a timber house, a warm, welcoming haven built using local material and labour. The choice of simple lines celebrates the history and culture of the region: the tents and cabins of gold-seekers and miners, farms, alpine structures and of course the natural environment. The architects articulate these vernacular inspirations with a strictly contemporary, streamlined, three-level construction that closely and constantly connects with the outdoors. The result is light-filled, airy rooms with welcoming, fresh design solutions, assuring a positive, relaxing feel that makes everyone - old and young alike - feel at home.
The house on Lake Chelan by Hoedermarker Pfeiffer has a kind of “camp life” feel to it but at the same time offers all the amenities of bio-sustainable building for an exciting holiday with low environmental impact.
