Anna & Eugeni Bach, revamp in Barcelona

Architects, Anna and Eugeni Bach have renovated an apartment in the Barcelona suburb of Eixample. A project that makes the most of the existing spaces, a delightful Chinese box to meet contemporary needs.
A 70-square metre apartment, a bit on the dark side, with only two rooms at the front of the building and the others facing onto an interior patio. This is the background for the revamp project by Anna and Eugeni Bach in an early 20th century building in Barcelona. 
A refurbishment that the two architects took on with their typical delicacy and respect for what came before, without sacrificing the comfort of a practical, liveable architectural project showcasing sleek, contemporary lines. 

So, they left the two street-front bedrooms alone and gutted the rest of the rooms and hallway to create a single, open space with an exceptionally high ceiling. A detail that Anna and Eugeni Bach took full advantage of by creating a kitchen box-volume, in doing so giving the impression of more space. They even purposed the top of this small volume as a studio with integrated desk - suspended from the ceiling - turning homework into child's play! 

They also exploit the apartment ceiling height in the bathroom with a raised floor to create storage space beneath and by hiding the sunken bathtub beneath the wooden slatted shower floor so residents can still enjoy a relaxing bath even in a tight space.
The architects have made the most of the whole area, using their imagination and empathy to create a practical and friendly home with the typical warmth that we can see in all their projects, like the house for kids or the MMMMMS House.
