The bridge of peace - Michele De Lucchi

Michele De Lucchi,

Glass,

abstract

The bridge of peace - Michele De Lucchi A bridge is a structure that joins two points, allowing people to get over an obstacle, and it is also a highly symbolic form of architecture in that it can be an emblem of dialogue between two opposite and divided positions. Michele De Lucchi’s bridge, the subject of a recent volume published by Electa, spans the Mtkvari River in Tbilisi, Georgia. The “Bridge of Peace”, as it has been nicknamed, links the city’s old Bericoni district with Rikhe area. The bridge is a covered pedestrian walkway which appears to be suspended, consisting of a sinusoidal membrane made up of steel pipes and triangular glass elements.  Electa’s publication tells the story of the project’s origins, structure and execution and relations with the client.
