Powerhouse Company Paper Roof new civic centre in Tianjin

An elegant, light contemporary take on the traditional Chinese pagoda roof, with upswept lower corners, is definitely the most recognisable element defining Paper Roof, a reception centre designed by the architects of Powerhouse Company in the new district of Binhai in Tianjin, China. The pavilion looks like a brightly lit glass box, covered with a light-as-air roof forming a new urban landmark for the Jin Hai Lake area.

Powerhouse Company works in collaboration with SHoP Architects, Office Winhov, Mecanoo and Crimson on a new masterplan for Rijnhaven, Rotterdam

Powerhouse Company, in collaboration with RED Company, presented the new masterplan for Rotterdam’s Rijnhaven, one of the oldest ports on the southern shore of the Nieuwe Maas. The project involves conversion of the Codrico factory, known for its industrial history and status as a landmark on the Rotterdam skyline, above all for the big cube on its roof that lights up bright green at night. Powerhouse Company’s masterplan celebrates the area’s industrial heritage while embracing the future with new buildings and better use of existing constructions. Major architectural studios such as Mecanoo, SHoP Architects, Office Winhov and Crimson Architectural Historians are involved in the design of the buildings in the masterplan.

Powerhouse Company designs Loop of Wisdom, a new iconic project for Chengdu

The Powerhouse Company architecture studio has designed a technology museum and reception centre for a new neighbourhood in Chengdu, the old Chinese city and capital of the Sichuan province. The project immediately became an important point of reference, especially for the iconic structure enclosing the area, a circular trail in the shape of a long red ribbon that follows the natural hills characterising the location, inviting people to explore it.

Powerhouse Company and De Zwarte Hond complete the new Assen Station

A new and iconic triangular wooden roof is the trademark of the new Assen Station, which has become the gateway to this Dutch city. This recently-completed project is the work of architecture firms Powerhouse Company and De Zwarte Hond, who decided to include a bold urban feature which seems to float above the buildings below it and which connects two districts of the city.
