"Materials Semantics in Design Applications": Talk and Workshop in Dubai
First stop in Dubai for the "Local Cultures in Global Settings" international contest promoted by the Iris Ceramica Group and its Foundation, and curated by UAE Modern. On May 22 and 23, the Canadian University Dubai will host "Materials Semantics in Design Applications", a talk featuring important guests from the world of design and a workshop aimed at students inspired by the works of the Brazilian master Roberto Burle Marx.

Iris Ceramica Group launches the international Local Cultures in Global Settings Contest
Registration is now open for the international "Local Cultures in Global Settings" contest promoted by the Iris Ceramica Group and open to architecture, art and design professionals who have graduated since 2013. Entrants may register and send their entries by July 31, 2023. The contest promotes technological innovation and the creation of conscious communities that share common values to combat climate change. The prizes for the winner include the creation of a prototype, the exhibition of the winning project and a trip to Dubai on the occasion of the Dubai Design Week.

Local Cultures in Global Settings, Iris Ceramica Group contest kicks off
Celebrating local cultures in global settings is the central theme – as well as the title – of the new international contest promoted by the Iris Ceramica Group and curated by UAE Modern. Following the round table held in Milan on April 20 during the Fuorisalone to kick off the event, new talks are planned in London and Dubai to accompany the contest until the final announcement of the winners at the Dubai Design Week.

Lissoni Casal Ribeiro The Oberoi Beach Resort - Al Zorah Ajman
Lissoni Casal Ribeiro designed a resort about 45 km from Dubai that goes beyond the concept of the hotel, offering guests the experience of a living community in dialogue with its surroundings, a nature park with lagoons and mangroves by the ocean. The complex is part of a broader masterplan for a town with a population of about 40,000, in which Oberoi Beach Resort is the first area to be completed.

Killa Design Museum of the Future Dubai
February 22 saw the inauguration of Dubai’s new Museum of the Future, designed by Killa Design for the Dubai Future Foundation, an iconic building that stands out in the Arabian city and aspires to become a new world landmark in science. The construction itself is futuristic, designed entirely using BIM, and will contain a permanent exhibition about all aspects of the future, in all sectors.

Dabbagh Architects designs a mosque in Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Dabbagh Architects, the studio led by principal architect and founder Sumaya Dabbagh, built a mosque dedicated to Mohamed Abdulkhaliq Gargash in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. The place of worship, convincing in form, material qualities and use of daylight, is one of the first mosques designed by a female architect in the United Arab Emirates.

Expo Dubai 2020, Luxembourg Pavilion designed by Metaform Architects
Metaform Architects, the Luxembourg-based multidisciplinary studio has designed the Pavilion representing Luxembourg at Expo Dubai 2020. A great deal of attention was paid to the visitors' experience, from the waiting line at the entrance, to the route inside the structure. What's more, thanks to the materials used, the project is 70% recyclable.
