Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane: Hirosaki Museum of Contemporary Art

The municipality of Hirosaki decided to open a new contemporary art museum in its former cider and saké distilleries. Following a PFI competition (Private Finance Initiative), the project was awarded to Atelier Tsuyoshi Tane Architects, which has completed a painstaking reclamation of the brick structures.

Ogawa: nature and architecture in the house with trees in Kagawa

Young architect Hironaka Ogawa has designed an expansion for a home in his city, Kagawa in Japan, with two big trees in the centre which are a part of the historic heritage of the site on which the home stands. The home is a sanctuary of memories dedicated to the trees, which were cut down to build the expansion but incorporated in the construction, exactly in their original places but inside the new building, to guard the spirit of the place.
