Rome,

Cement,

Exhibition,

An exhibition of works from the collections of MAXXI Architettura and public and private collections in the Veneto featuring works never exhibited before, sketches, posters and prototypes casts light on new aspects of Carlo Scarpa’s career.

Rome: Carlo Scarpa and the shape of words exhibition For the first time it is not the great master?s architecture that is in the limelight but his graphic work such as font designs, incorporation of words into architecture and printed works.

The exhibition includes projects covering Carlo Scarpa?s entire career, demonstrating that all his architectural projects also included writing.
In addition to these, he designed "paper" products such as material supporting exhibitions, publications, etc., starting with a design for an art magazine cover in 1945, presented to the public for the first time at MAXXI.

The letters C and S, Carlo Scarpa?s initials, are the iconographic image representing the exhibition, designed, made out of cement and photographed by Francesca Palladini and Lucia Pasqualin, inspired by a reading and re-writing of the architect?s alphabets.
