Peter Pichler Architecture: Innovation and Sustainability in Design

The twenty-ninth episode of "The Architects Series - A documentary on: Peter Pichler Architecture", the exhibition format curated by THE PLAN magazine for the Iris Ceramica Group, will be held on Thursday May 25, 2023. Viewers will have the opportunity to attend the screening of the documentary film dedicated to the Peter Pichler Architecture studio and the lecture given by its founder, architect Peter Pichler. The webinar will be streamed live from the Iris Ceramica Group showroom in Milan and will be accessible to users who have previously registered on the Group's digital platform.

The Peter Pichler Architecture (PPA) studio has aroused a great deal of interest in the world of contemporary architecture thanks to its young, dynamic and experimental approach. The PPA team has won important international awards and recognitions from institutions around the world. One of the studio's most recent projects, the Bonfiglioli headquarters in Bologna, developed in collaboration with ARUP, was exhibited in the Italian Best Practice section of the Italian pavilion curated by architect Alessandro Melis during the 17th International Architecture Exhibition of the Venice Biennale..

PPA's history began in 2015 when Peter Pichler and Silvana Ordinas founded the studio in Milan, sharing a common vision of architecture. The choice of Milan, as the permanent location for their business, was dictated by having found in the Italian city an environment conducive to innovation and design. The current headquarters of PPA are a renovated historical warehouse in Milan’s Navigli area. It is precisely inside these spaces that the documentary film presented as part of The Architects Series will take us. The images and words of the protagonists will allow the public to discover where and how the works created by the studio are born. Thanks to the "behind the scenes" look offered by the documentary, viewers will have the chance to discover how the internal environment of PPA's headquarters has been specially designed to facilitate communication between team members, while preserving the building's original character of a laboratory. A concrete example of the studio's innovative and contemporary approach which, even in its avant-garde designs, emanates a deep respect for tradition and for the local context, whether natural or urban.
Research and technological innovation are at the heart of PPA's creative process. In fact, the studio's designs are tested in various aspects using parametric tools and advanced simulations. Moreover, sustainability is a key value, an ethic to be followed at all times regardless of the size of the project to be carried out. A modus operandi that translates into a constant assessment of the environmental impact of the works, creating projects that respect the environment and the local communities.
