The first edition of Open House Roma, an event hosted by the international organisation Open House Worldwide, is coming up on May 5 and 6, 2012.
Open house was first held twenty years ago in London, where it attracts more than 300,000 visitors. The formula is simple: opening buildings of architectural interest which are normally closed to the public for one weekend a year. The project has been successfully replicated in other parts of the world, and Open House Worldwide has independent offices on all continents.
In Rome, the city has been divided into homogeneous areas and itineraries have been proposed for touring them by foot or on a bicycle, organised by associations and institutions; the architects themselves will guide visitors on tours of some contemporary buildings, and the initiative includes events aimed at introducing children to the vocabulary of architecture.
