Open House Roma 2016 is coming up on May 7 and 8. The programme, now in its fifth edition, includes more than 170 buildings, examples of antique, modern and contemporary architecture including interior design projects in private homes, architectural studios and construction sites open to the public for the occasion, as well as 60 special events. Visitors will be able to choose from a vast programme of events broken down by theme, more than half of which are new sites to visit this year, including many places not normally open to the public.
The themes addressed include:
“City of knowledge”, concerned with places where culture and research are preserved and promoted, including the Italian Space Agency Building designed by studio 5+1AA, the Library at the Accademia dei Lincei and the Hertziana Library. The “Living” and “Architecture of Everyday Life” theme areas include 20 private homes, workspaces, places of worship and construction sites.
“Factory and Creative Production” is the theme addressed in creative and productive districts resulting from conversion projects; from Pietralata to Mandrione, from Portuense to Ostiense, from San Lorenzo to Pigneto and Primavalle. Lastly, historic sites in the city are featured in the “Through History” theme area, while fashion schools and workshops are showcased in “Fashion Spaces”, and unusual restaurants and hotels are the subject of “Bed&Food”. The Open House programme is held in more than 30 cities all over the world, and this year Open House Roma will be held in conjunction with the first edition of Open House Milano.
