In Aalsmeer, in the Netherlands, MVRDV architectural studio has designed a hotel celebrating flowers, like the theme park in which it stands, a candidate for future economic and touristic heart of the flower industry.
The "Flowerbed Hotel" building is made up of a number of glass volumes overlapping and intersecting to generate large spaces and gardens open to the public totalling 2100 m² of flowerbeds. The building includes public spaces for daytime visitors, private areas for hotel guests and a mixed-use area offering numerous services, including the conference centre and fitness-wellness area, connected by a semi-public path.
The building uses advanced high-tech installations to generate electricity, ensuring optimal energy performance and sustainability despite the large amount of glass in the building.
