Messner Mountain Museum Corones, architecture and nature.

A project bearing two acclaimed names – architect Zaha Hadid and mountain climber Reinhold Messner – to create a new attraction at the top of Plan de Corones or Kronplatz, the mountain in Val Pusteria renowned for its state-of-the-art ski lifts and ski slopes.
Instead of leaving ski lifts idle in the summer months, and to create a new cultural offer, the Skirama Kronplatz consortium came up with the idea of a building that would enhance nature and the mountain and become a real tourist attraction.
The project by Zaha Hadid architects kindled the interest of Reinhold Messner, who was looking for a venue for his sixth and last museum, dedicated to rock faces. 
What better container than a Hadid-designed building? An underground museum, with fluid lines, embedded into the rock of Plan de Corones, and where every opening frames a significant peak in the individual history of Messner, who in turn will be personally responsible for setting up the museum. 
1000 square metres, whose materials underscore its ties with the territory, and indeed the CasaClima certification body in South Tyrol, Italy has certified it as Class A: a record not only for its altitude of 2275 m asl, but also for its sustainability and the excellence of the local businesses that Kronplatz involved. 
Floornature and Livegreenblog will be attending the opening, scheduled for Summer 2015. Because here, building depends on nature and work is restricted to May-October.
