New professional opportunities for visual project directors are promoted by the first level master’s programme in Communication for Architecture: Architecture, Image and Communication organised by IUAV. This new kind of professional will be an expert in communication about architecture, design and art, capable of conveying the disciplines’ cultural depth and using the new forms of expression and the new visual idioms offered by contemporary society.
In a global world, where the new media and digital images rule in communications and web sites and social media have a major impact on a project’s success and an architect’s reputation, there is a need for a new kind of professional capable of communicating about architecture, design and art in a way which reveals the disciplines’ cultural depth. This is the concept underlying the first level master’s degree in Communication for Architecture: Architecture, Image, Communication promoted by IUAV and coordinated by professors Angelo Maggi and Paolo Schianchi.
The one-year master’s programme is intended for the new visual project directors, a term suggested by the coordinators themselves to identify this new kind of professional. The first one-year programme will take place from March 2017 through March 2018 and has only 20 places.
The students will attend lectures in the classroom and workshops focusing on themes concerned with the transformation of physical space through new forms of expression and visual idioms, organised into units of 125 hours each. The first two course units, “The specific features of the image of architecture” and “Communicated architecture ”, will be held at ’Iuav University in Venice, while the third and last unit, "Architecture and the new media", will be held in Milan, at SpazioFMGperl'Architettura.
