Frank Barkow for The Architects Series - A documentary on: Barkow Leibinger

The new appointment of The Architects Series, the format created by The Plan magazine for the Iris Ceramica Group is dedicated to architect Barkow Leibinger.
Barkow Leibinger is the nineteenth architectural studio to open its doors to the public and share a backstage look of some of its most important projects. Following the now consolidated formula of the Series, the event will begin with the screening of the documentary curated by The Plan magazine and shot directly in the architecture studio's headquarters, founded in Berlin in 1993 by architects Frank Barkow and Regine Leibinger. The intent of the documentary is, in fact, to allow the public to virtually step into the very places where architecture is born discovering, up close, the people and the modus operandi of the studios, as well as some of their key projects currently underway. The screening will be followed by a lecture entitled “Revolutions of Choice” held by architect Frank Barkow, at the end of which participants will have the opportunity to ask the architect questions, discussing the studio's architectural themes and design philosophy.

Frank Barkow and Regine Leibinger are the two founders and the souls of the American-German studio founded in Berlin in 1993, which today boasts over eighty collaborators. The studio has created and is involved in a wide spectrum of works: from residential and industrial interiors to new buildings, from projects in existing contexts such as the Apartment House in Prenzlauer Berg - Berlin, up to large-scale projects for the construction of headquarters with production, logistics and administration premises such as the Trumpf Smart Factory in Chicago.
Practice, research and a careful study of materials and new construction techniques are the basis of the architects' modus operandi. A rigorous design approach, but one which allows for expanding the boundaries of the discipline thanks to the adoption of innovative digital production technologies and latest generation materials. The interest in materials and research conducted by the Barkow Leibinger studio have been the subject of dedicated exhibitions and various experimental projects, such as the Serpentine Summer House 2016, a pavilion with a continuous shape created using curved plywood panels. The firm has received numerous awards, with some of the most recent including the German Steel Construction Award (2018) and the AIA Honour Award for Architecture (2019) for the above-mentioned Trumpf Smart Factory in Chicago and the BSA Honour Award for Design Excellence (2019) for the “Harvard Artlab” in Cambridge.

The webinar will be streamed live from the Iris Ceramica Group Showroom in Berlin, with real-time participation of the other stores in Milan and London and a parterre of selected guests. To participate and follow the event online, registration is required on the Iris Ceramica Group’s digital platform. Participation will allow architects to acquire 2 professional training credits.
