urbEXPO 2016, anniversary time In preparation for the urbEXPO photography exhibition in Bochum, Germany, the organisers have launched a special theme for 2016, namely historical Lost Places connected to environmental disasters like Chernobyl and Fukushima.

Lost Places are not just disused industrial buildings, they are not just romantic corners showing the slow decay of centuries-old structures. Lost Places are also the so-called “death zones” around the nuclear reactor at Chernobyl or the power plant at Fukushima. Two environmental disasters occurring 30 and 5 years ago, respectively.

Historical events that leave traces in the urban and landscape context, and that the organisers of urbEXPO, the photography exhibition “Lost Places, Beauty of Decay and Architecture” that we already explored last year (link) would like to cover in the 2016 edition of the exhibition scheduled for August and September 2016 in Bochum, Germany.

So urbEXPO suggests a series of themes to liven up the already interesting range of photographs exhibited over the years. Apart from the motifs of Lost Places with historical anniversaries in 2016 like Fukushima and Chernobyl, aerial and outdoor photos, underwater photos and even video recordings of places outside Europe in general can also be submitted, adding a more international touch to the submissions. Where possible, documenting everything with a series of 3 or 4 images.

Interested photographers and artists have until 20 March 2016 to submit their material. See the urbEXPO site for more information and registration form.
In addition to the first retrospective, in June 2016, urbEXPO will also present RETROSPEKTIVA during the Photo+Adventure fair in the landscape park of Duisburg-Nord, industrial area redeveloped for recreational use. An event that Livegreenblog will be attending so we can share our impressions and images live.
