The latest innovations in Green Building Technology by ZGF.
American architecture, design and landscaping firm, ZGF and Sellen Construction developed the new regional headquarters for the U.S Army Corps of Engineers in Seattle. A LEED Gold-certified building that is on its way towards LEED Platinum certification.

Designing a federal building that consumes one fifth of the energy normally used by a construction of this size is a positive result that is driving the Federal Center South Building in Seattle to new sustainability heights.

Renowned for their environmentally-friendly approach to architecture, the ZGF design team proposed the latest green technologies for this building, including geothermal energy, building orientation, daylight for 90% of the interiors and recycled materials.

The rainwater management. system is really interesting. Indeed, the original hardscape of this brownstone site has been turned into pervious green landscaping. This reduces the urban heat island effect. Stormwater runoff from the roof is captured in 94,000 litre (25,000 gallon) cisterns and used for toilets and irrigation.

The actual building is the redevelopment of an existing, non-historic warehouse, now converted into the 19,000 square metre headquarters of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. An all-round green project.
