- K.I.S.S., apartment building in Zurich by Camenzind Evolution
Swiss architecture firm, Camenzind Evolution designed K.I.S.S. – a truly unique apartment building – in Zurich, Switzerland.
K.I.S.S. is a virtuous example of careful, global design, where the architects were responsible for the whole process, including the architecture concept, construction and branding. It also won Best Architecture Multiple Residence in the 2013-2014 European Property Awards.
The apartment block occupies a corner site. The building’s street façade looks almost like a sculpture, emphasised by the haphazard arrangement of the many, different-sized windows with slightly tilted metal frames. This solid façade contrasts with the lightness of the southern side, boasting floor to ceiling glazing and colourful, light balconies.
K.I.S.S. stands for “Kompromisslos. Individuell. Süss. Sauer.” (without compromise, individual, sweet, sour) and the 46, two-storey apartments propose a bold, clearly diversified interior design. They have the same floor plan, but potential tenants can choose from CLASSIC, INDUSTRIAL and FUNKY, which offer very different living experiences: from the minimal charm of INDUSTRIAL featuring bare concrete, to the graffiti-covered walls of FUNKY.
The striking visual impact of the exterior and interior of K.I.S.S. by Camenzind Evolution is combined with sustainable design like the ground source pump for heating, certified to the Minergie Swiss sustainability standard.
