International Light Art Award 2015 Lots of initiatives are being rolled out for the International Year of Light (IYL2015), including the very first edition of the International Light Art Award (ILAA), which includes “The Future of Light Art” exhibition to open on 25 January.

The 2015 International Light Art Award (ILAA) is organised by the Centre for International Light Art in Unna, Germany – the only museum in the world dedicated wholly and exclusively to Light Art – together with the RWE Foundation.

This is the first edition of the award, set up to celebrate the international year of light (IYL2015) organised by UNESCO, with the aim of promoting light artists and light art in general. A Recommendation Committee formed of museum directors, curators, artists, academics and collectors was created to suggest names of fine quality light artists of top quality.  The nominees were asked to submit a proposal of their light art work to be assessed by the international jury.

The three finalists of the first International Light Art Award 2015 – Martin Hesellmeier & Andres Muxel (DE/A), Iván Navarro (USA), Dirk Vollenbroich (DE) – will receive their awards during a ceremony in Berlin on 22 January, which will be followed by an exhibition of their artworks at the Centre for International Light Art in Unna from 25 January 2015.
