Dubai Design Week, installations Dubai Design Week decided to celebrate the communicative capacity of architectural installations that challenge conventions and set up ties between observer and location by handpicking site-specific works positioned at strategic locations around the city.

Dubai is not just skyscrapers and shopping, it's also a city where design is celebrated in late October, with Dubai Design Week.  Not only that but the Dubai Design District aka d3, a highly innovative hub based on the principles of sustainability, is being built and slated for completion by 2019, at the service of creative industry.

To draw attention to Dubai Design Week in the urban fabric of Dubai, which surrounded by all the breath-taking towers risked passing unobserved, 12 installations by a handpicked selection of renowned designers, artists and architects from United Arab Emirates and the rest of the world were positioned at strategic locations around the city. So, 12 site-specific works were created expressly for Dubai Design Week and their narrative is all about forging ties with the places, aiming to drive users towards active engagement with their surroundings.

This was not just a temporary artistic decoration of squares and avenues; the basic idea draws on the great communicative potential of art, in order to encourage users to see themselves as active parts of the complex macrocosm of an ultra-modern city, in this case built in the desert and where everything seems to have been designed around the use of cars. A strong sign, both in terms of visual impact and content, which ranges from multimedia to material, from interaction to recycling.

Here is a full list of the installations and their creators: LOVE PROJECT, Designer Guto Requena; UNTITLED (ARCHWAY), Designer Anjali Srinivasan; LOT36587, Designer Raudha Al Ghurair; FRAGMENTS OF ‘NOW’ – REFLECTIONS OF THE IMMEDIATE PAST, Designer Yohei Iwaki; SOUNDWEAVING, Designers Zsanett Szirmay and Bálint Tárkány-Kovács; DETRITUS WALL, Designer Ali Al-Sammarraie; LUZ, Designers Bahar & Sawsan Al Bahar; DECONSTRUCTING ZONE, Designer Henrique Stabile presented by Coletivo Amor de Madre; NERVOUS STRUCTURE, Designers Cuppetelli and Mendoza; YAROOF, Designer Aljoud Lootah; EARTH HIVES, Designers Latifa Saeed and Talin Hazbar; SCAFFOLDING/ TRUSS, Designer Zeinab Al Hashemi.
