- Award-winning Landscaping at Phuket, Thailand
The design of the external areas of the Renaissance Phuket Resort&Spa by the studio Landscape Architects 49 Lt was awarded an honourable mention in the “General Hospitality” category of the 2015 TALA Awards, organised by the Thai Association of Landscape Architects (TALA).
The hotel complex, part of the Marriott chain, stands on ground flanked by two sand dunes between the Mai Khao beach and a lake on the inland side. The landscape architects, involved from the very beginning of the architectural project, have been able to make a decisive influence on creating an ambience which reflects the nature of the island and every type of building is in harmony with it.
The heart of the concept is the native vegetation indigenous to the tropical jungle on this Thai island. Following the dynamic layout of the site, local flora is everywhere - leading the visitor around the various buildings scattered throughout the area.
The role of the pond in the lower part of the location is not only decorative but also functional and very impressive. This extremely beautiful artificial pond is actually used for draining purposes but, at the same time, is also an additional luxury for the rooms in the surrounding wing.
The design for Phuket Renaissance Resort&Spa, with its marvellous park and enchanting views, makes it a truly regenerating holiday resort and is another example of the high quality and utmost importance of landscape architecture in Thailand.
