Architecture for education

Carlo Ratti,

Oxford,

University,

The start of the new school year offers a great opportunity to look at school and university campus projects presented in Floornature.

Architecture for education

Let’s take a look back at some of the school buildings and educational centres presented in Floornature. Starting with a project inspired by the scientific concept of “biophilia” according to scientist Edward O. Wilson, a centre combining nature with technology to encourage collaborative learning inside and outside the classroom. This is "The Greene School" campus in West Palm Beach, Florida by architectural studio Carlo Ratti Associati.
Sustainability and safety are indissolubly united with fantasy and imagination in the new Nursery School in Guastalla designed by MC A Mario Cucinella Architects, opened in September 2015. In Great Britain, the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University designed by Herzog & de Meuron and the new Riverside Campus of City of Glasgow College by Michael Laird Architects & Reiach and Hall Architects have been shortlisted for the 2016 RIBA Stirling Prize.
Lastly, Cintya Concari invites us to discover her new itinerary with a focus on architecture for children created for Floornature, a tour of the world’s most sustainable schools.
