Höweler + Yoon: Sky Court Exhibition Hall in Chengdu

Höweler + Yoon’s Boston studio applied the traditional model of the Chinese courtyard house to the plan for Sky Court Exhibition Hall in Chengdu. Using the shape of this type of building, compact on the outside with an open courtyard on the inside, the architects take advantage of its ability to control temperature to reduce energy consumption. The project falls into the current of contemporary Chinese architecture that draws inspiration from tradition and proposes a new, updated version of it.
