Modernist Brazilian architecture up for auction?
Palácio Gustavo Capanema, the seat of Brazil’s Ministry of Health and Education, is a government office building in Rio de Janeiro’s Centro district. Brazil’s first Modernist building, it has been tentatively listed as a UNESCO heritage site as, but it may now be sold into private hands.

Carlo Ratti Associati expands Brasilia’s historic masterplan with Biotic
The new Brasilia high-tech innovation district surrounded by nature is to be called Biotic. The recently completed expansion project, designed by Carlo Ratti Associati architects practice, began in 2018. It reinterprets the 1955 modernist masterplan created by town planner Lúcio Costa and architect Oscar Niemeyer for the Brazilian city, now a UNESCO world heritage site.

Paulo Mendes da Rocha Royal Gold Medal 2017 RIBA
2016 was definitely a "golden year" for Brazilian architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha. The long list of awards presented to him over the course of his career, including the 2006 Pritzker Prize, grew longer with the addition of a Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement, the Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award and now, the RIBA Royal Gold Medal.
