Bruther wins the 2020 Swiss Architectural Award

The studio Bruther, founded by architects Stéphanie Bru and Alexandre Thériot, has won the 2020 Swiss Architectural Award. The candidates for the seventh edition of the award are nominated by a committee of internationally prominent architects and critics. The jury, chaired by architect Mario Botta, selected Bruther on the basis of three projects: the Saint-Blaise Cultural and Sports Centre in Paris (2010-2014), the New Generation Research Centre in Caen (2013-2015), and “Maison Julie-Victoire Daubié” Residence for Researchers in Paris (2014-2018).

The “Cultural Block” in Paris, designed by Tolila+Gilliland with TVK

On the outskirts of Paris, in Clichy-Batignolles, a large new complex has sprung up, the work of the TVK and Tolila+Gilliland firms. Its name, The Cultural Block, refers to the intent to allocate large shared spaces to the public and to culture by inserting them into a large 342-unit residential project. A fully-fledged neighbourhood in its own right, even equipped with a cinema, dance school and community centre for the residents.
