Parasite 2.0 wins Maxxi YAP 2016 with MAXXI Temporary School

YAP Maxxi 2016, the sixth international programme for the promotion of young designers organised in collaboration by: MoMA/MoMA PS1 of New York, Constructo of Santiago de Chile, Istanbul Modern (Turkey), MMCA National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Seoul (Korea) and, of course, Maxxi of Rome (Italy).
The international panel of judges of YAP Maxxi has announced the winner of the 2016 edition: MAXXI Temporary School: The museum is a school. A school is a Battleground, an installation designed by the Milanese studio Parasite 2.0 composed of Eugenio Cosentino, Stefano Colombo and Luca Marullo.

Parasite 2.0’s project is a "scene for urban representation" consisting of mobile backdrops reproducing fantastic settings complete with shapes of animals and fragments of nature as well as wooden, rubber and metal elements. The installation’s strong points are its ability to transform the nature of open space in the museum, its multidisciplinary identity on the boundary between architecture, set design, art and performance art, and its link with the construction tradition, not only in the museums but also in theatres and cinemas in Rome, and inclusion of aspects concerned with communication and “social” interaction.
The installation, presented as "a reflection on the disappearance of the boundary between space and its representation", will provide the background for summer events to be held in the square in front of Maxxi and is bound to become a favourite place for museum visitors to take selfies.
