MVRDV, The Couch Tennisclub IJburg, Amsterdam

Work will soon begin on construction of The Couch, a clubhouse designed by MVRDV, to be completed by the summer of 2014.
The facility is part of the Tennisclub in IJburg, a residential district currently under construction on a number of artificial islands on Lake IJ on the eastern side of Amsterdam.

The name “the couch” is a result of the couch-shaped informal stands for up to 200 spectators forming the roof of the clubhouse.
The building will be open on both sides and contain a number of different functions (locker rooms, kitchen, storage rooms, toilets). The northern side will be made entirely out of glass to provide the best possible natural lighting for the spaces and provide beautiful panoramic views over Lake IJ.
