The Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin recently inaugurated the exhibition "Local & Transcultural" dedicated to the PLAYZE architects studio, founded fifteen years ago by architects Pascal Berger, He Mengjia and Marc Schmit, which has made its multiculturalism a real strongpoint for working in different countries around the world.

Local & Transcultural PLAYZE architects exhibition in Berlin

Founded fifteen years ago by architects Pascal Berger (Switzerland), He Mengjia (China) and Marc Schmit (Luxembourg), the PLAYZE architects studio came to international attention with its design for the organic farm Tony's Farm and as the local partner of the German pavilion for the 2010 Shanghai International Exhibition. From 27 August, the architecture firm, and some of its most important works, are featured in the exhibition 'Local & Transcultural' organised by the Aedes Architecture Forum in Berlin.
The title of the exhibition refers to a distinctive characteristic of the studio, namely its great openness to understanding different cultures and ways of working. A characteristic determined by the very nature of PLAYZE, which is made up of an international team with members from 14 different countries, working in the three offices of the architecture firm: Berlin, Basel and Shanghai. In addition, since 2021, the firm has expanded its interest in sustainable wood projects by founding Playze Timber in collaboration with architect Maximilian Schröder.
.
The exhibition presents an overview of the firms' experience and modus operandi in handling projects, offering visitors an insight into the work of Playze Architects. The exhibition is divided into two rooms. In the first, visitors will be welcomed into the convivial atmosphere of a cafeteria with an open kitchen, which will become a space for informal discussion and interaction with project participants and specially invited guests. The second room, on the other hand, will focus on the presentation of eight projects narrated through drawings, sketches, models, films and other components distributed on long display tables to give visitors an idea of the creative process. The exhibited projects were created by Playze in China, Germany, Luxembourg and Switzerland. This includes some interior designs in Berlin and, also in the German capital, the recent Moos. This is a conversion project with an extension of a historic bathtub factory converted into communal housing and co-working spaces. Others include one of the firm's most famous projects, the lobby and communal areas of the organic farm Tony’s Farm completed in Shanghai in 2011 by reusing green containers.
