The Brooklyn Botanic Garden Visitors Center. AIA Institute Honor Awards for Architecture 2014.
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has announced the winners of the Institute Honor Awards, which will be presented at the AIA 2014 National Convention and Design Exposition in Chicago. The Brooklyn Botanic Visitors Center by Weiss/Manfredi is one of the award recipients.

This project is a visual masterpiece, which the architects designed with care. This was just one of the AIA jury’s comments about the Brooklyn Botanic Visitors Center in New York, designed by Weiss/Manfredi.

An architectural presence that transitions from Washington Avenue to the botanic garden, always seeking to mediate interiors and exteriors, assisted by the green roof and the large windows.

Some very interesting sustainable elements have been incorporated in the LEED Gold. certified project. The spectrally selective, curved glass window panes maximise natural light and minimize heat gain. Other sustainable elements include a geothermal exchange and a rain garden, along with locally sourced materials.

The AIA has thus awarded a project that provides a sustainable and exemplary mediation between nature and architecture.
