Social Housing by Aguilera Guerrero in Tarragona.

The layout of the land greatly influenced the shape of the Social Housing complex in Tarragona, Catalonia (Spain) designed by Aguilera Guerrero’s architect firm.



The topography of the location determined the design of the project for the new social housing building which represents the latest accomplishment in expansive urban planning. This challenge was skilfully taken on by the architects in the Aguilera Guerrero firm who produced design solutions of great impact.





In order to give all the inhabitants a good view from their balconies, the positioning of the two blocks which form the building was of utmost importance. On the other hand, the plan of the apartments is regulated by standard sizes for this type of social housing with exact measurements for the living room, bedroom and bathroom.



An interesting key feature is the use of a ventilated façade, made out of metal panels. Painted red, it dramatically contrasts the white plaster of the whole complex and is advantageous both in summer, for keeping the walls a constant temperature, and in winter when the vertical grids on the panels provide protection from rain.



In this way natural ventilation and passive cooling is ensured for the building. Energy requirements are integrated with solar panels.



The complex designed by Aguilera Guerrero fits stylishly into the surroundings without disrupting the overall perspective of the area.
