K: emptiness – photographic exhibition by duo Jesús Marina and Elena Morón

Light and darkness are the binomials represented in the photographic exhibition “K: emptiness” - two words which become structural materials. Jesús Marina, History professor, and Elena Morón, architect, explore space, emptiness and their representation.



“K: emptiness”, or the void, is the title of the work by Marina-Morón's Spanish artistic team who present the concept of quietness and solitude through architectural photography.





The exhibition will arrive in Spain in the Fundación Valentin de Madariaga, Seville, after being in London, and consists of minimalist photographs portraying whole or sectioned architecture where light and darkness are so dense that they become the dominant subject matter. As in their previous award-winning research, the duo Marina-Morón analyse the tangible relationship between the image and architectonic space.





This time Jesús Marina, History professor, and Elena Morón, architect, have added brief poetical comments to the images. So, the visual element is intensified by the literal aspect of the text by a fictitious character and effectively becomes an authentic double diary.





In “K: emptiness” the emphasis is put on solitude, the absence of a physical presence, in accordance with the oriental concept of the body activating space as opposed to the existence of space in itself. Either, as defined by the poet Noel Arnaud “I am the space where I am”, or “I am what is around me” quoting the poet Wallace Stevens - just to underline the intimate bond between photography and poetry.
The exhibition is accompanied by the photographic book “K: emptiness” published by Kehrer Verlag Stoccarda.
