Eley Kishimoto fitted out the interior of Southerden Patisserie Pattern expert Eley Kishimoto and design practice, Studio MacLean joined forces to fit out the new Southerden Patisserie and Café in London. A project that transformed a shabby old hairdressers into a unique, mind-blowing interior.

Eley Kishimoto, expert in print and fashion creations and patterns, and the studio of Jason MacLean, award-winning, London-based interior designer joined forces to come up with this stupefying conversion and fit-out project.

The new premises of Mel Southerden’s Southerden Patisserie and Café in Bermondsey Street, London, opposite the Fashion Textile Museum, is itself a fashion feast for the eyes and senses and not just a delight for the taste buds! The standout graphics of the floor and wall coverings in Eley Kishimoto’s Venice pattern have turned this rundown hairdressers into an extremely alluring fashion landmark.

The result is like a hugely impacting optical illusion – a 3D trompe l’oeuil effect that takes customers to another dimension, that of the five senses, distancing them from their daily routine. This project plays with the patterns and textures of the surfaces, with the addition of innovative and low environmental impact lighting design. Everything completed within a restricted time and to a tight budget.

By teaming up again for Southerden Patisserie and Café, Eley Kishimoto and MacLean have consolidated their work together on interiors, also confirming the importance of Visual Marketing in the design of practical and at the same time user-friendly collective spaces.
