Creative Brooklyn treehouse made from reclaimed materials

Interior designer Alexandra Meyn decided to built a treehouse in her backyard in Brooklyn, New York in order to develop practical design skills while exploring employment opportunities. With a budget of only 400 dollars, she was able to build this two-level treehouse that stands 17 feet tall and offers 40 square feet of space.
Recycling played a key role in this design; doors and windows were rescued from the trash and floorboards, paint and other items were purchased inexpensively from Build It Green, a non-profit organization that sells reclaimed supplies.
The upper-level interior is characterized by the contrast of the wooden surfaces and the tin roof, as well as the collage of fashion magazine pages that covers the wall.
Attached to an old mulberry, this treehouse provides an ideal retreat. It has already withstood a tornado and the strong winds of Hurricane Irene, and has recently been made waterproof and airtight as the designer plans to use it as her painting studio.
