On December 3, 2013 Baksi Museum in Bayburt, Turkey was presented with the "Museum of the Year Award 2014", assigned by the Committee on Culture of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. The prize is a bronze statuette by Joan Miro, to be exhibited in the museum for one year. Previous winners include Liverpool Museum (England), the Guggenheim Bilbao Museum (Spain), Salzburg Museum (Austria) and the National Museum of Denmark

Baksi Museum was built by painter Hüsamettin Kocan, who founded the Baksi Culture Art Foundation for the purpose. It was designed in 2004 by architect Mimar Sinan Genim and completed in 2010. The form of the museum recalls the hilly landscape around it: the curved, sloped roof, the weight-bearing structure with three bays and the use of precast concrete as the primary construction material are all architectural choices determined by the area’s harsh, snowy climate.
