The sculpture/tower designed by Anish Kapoor in collaboration with Cecil Balmond looks like an iconic torch 115 metres high celebrating the 2012 London Olympics.

Indian artist Anish Kapoor worked with engineer Cecil Balmond on a sculpture/tower for the 2012 London Olympics.
Funded primarily by steel multinational ArcelorMittal, the Orbit project is part of a plan by the London city council and mayor Boris Johnson for nine artworks to serve as attractions and landmarks for the sporting facilities built for the 2012 Olympics.

The project by Kapoor and Balmond, winners of the 2010 competition, is a spiral made of a grid of steel tubes pained red, measuring 115 m in height: 22 m more than New York?s Statue of Liberty.

The tower in the southern part of the Olympic Park between the stadium and the Aquatics Centre will offer visitors breathtaking views of the Olympic Park and the London skyline, and at the end of the Olympics it will live on as a public attraction in the park named after Queen Elizabeth II.
