7 archistars for Rome Seven international architectural studios, Aldo Aymonino, David Chipperfield, Stefano Cordeschi, Roger Diener, Paolo Portoghesi, Franco Purini and Giuseppe Rebecchini, took part in the "Past and present ideas meet" conference in the Auditorium at the Ara Pacis in Rome. The issue addressed was redevelopment of the urban area leading from Via Giulia through Piazza della Moretta, ending at the Lungotevere, the road along the banks of the Tiber. The main goals of the discussion were solving the urban problem of the empty space generated by demolitions in the ’thirties and finding a solution for a 400 spot underground parking lot required in the area. In response to the first issue, the seven architectural studios proposed ideas to be subjected to public consultation to come up with guidelines for the future competition.
