Nicholas Grimshaw

Biography

Brogi: Evolution intended as a process of change of the architecture, the durability change, or renewal.

Nicholas Grimshaw: Well, I think sometimes if you look, in Italian cities you can see that the buildings last a long time and they are being repaired and renewed, but I think renewal is more than that. I think to really renew urban fabric you want to introduce new, all the time, otherwise you become kind of frozen in the past. And I think architecture has gone through evolution this century in a big way, and I think it's a shame that in a way Italian cities are being reluctant to recognize this, I think.
